The Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) has released the official Communiqué issued at its 19th Annual International Conference and General Assembly, held from 25–27 November 2025 at the Abiola Ajimobi Resource Centre, University of Ibadan, Nigeria
The Conference, convened under the theme “Economic Challenges and the Task of Building Sustainable Peace in a Globalised World,” brought together political leaders, scholars, practitioners, policymakers, security experts, civil society actors, and private-sector leaders from across Africa and beyond. Over 170 scholarly papers were presented through in-person and virtual sessions, reinforcing SPSP’s role as a leading platform for evidence-based dialogue on peace and development.
The Communiqué documents:
Key deliberations on the economic drivers of conflict, inclusive growth, local governance, security sector reform, migration, and research-to-policy translation
Major Fellowship, Ambassador of Peace, and Pathfinder Awards conferred in recognition of outstanding contributions to peacebuilding
Consolidated policy-oriented recommendations for governments, development partners, civil society, and academic institutions
Decisions of the General Assembly, including leadership transition and commitments to follow-up actions and strategic partnerships
Overall, the Communiqué reaffirms SPSP’s commitment to advancing sustainable peace through scholarship, policy engagement, and practice, while providing a clear roadmap for translating conference outcomes into actionable programmes across Nigeria, the ECOWAS sub-region, and Africa at large.
